Carnival Update

Kia ora koutou,

As you are all aware, we are experiencing some very challenging times at the moment. The Carnival committee, Board Chair and I met this afternoon, and the decision has been made to cancel the Carnival.  This is in line with the Government’s announcement this afternoon with regards to mass gatherings.

We would like to sincerely thank all those who have been involved in the preparation that has taken place up until now, as there have been many hours of hard work put in already. 

Therefore, the intention is for us to take a ‘deconstructed’ approach to the various elements of the Carnival.  In part, this ensures that efforts to date are not wasted.  We are hoping to have a number of mini events throughout the remainder of the year, once things return to normal.

 Current items to note:

• The Silent Auction and Raffle will continue as planned – please share the information about these with as many people as possible so that we can make these major fundraisers.  Look out for the Carnival newsletter that will come out at the end of the week – it will have more details regarding when the auction goes live and when it will close.
• The planned collection of goods this weekend will not take place.  The working bee volunteers will instead use the time to store the materials already collected into the container.  We will investigate the possibility of having a form of garage sale at a later date during the year.

 On another note, the After School Café has also been cancelled for the remainder of the term.

Thank you, once again to all who have given up many hours of their time.  This will not be wasted as we will look at how we will run other events to move the goods you have so kindly donated. Also, thank you to the many folk who had volunteered for the Carnival day.  We appreciate your generosity and enthusiasm and know that we can count on you for future events.

We are all bitterly disappointed about this, however we understand that it is our social responsibility to keep our community safe.

Thank you all so much for your on-going understanding and support.  It is very much appreciated. I will continue to keep you updated with any directives from the Ministry of Health and/or the Ministry of Education.
